Man charged with off-licence robbery in Clayton-le-Woods

A man has been charged with robbery following an armed raid on an off-licence near Preston.

Two members of staff were working in Bargain Booze in Preston Road, Clayton-le-Woods, when a man entered carrying a knife.

A quantity of cash and cigarettes were taken from the shop.

Lancashire Police have arrested and charged Christopher Leeming, 34, of The Martindales, Clayton-le-Woods with robbery.

An appeal continues to trace a second man wanted in connection with the robbery.

He was waiting outside the shop throughout the robbery and wearing dark clothing and appeared to have a metallic walking stick.

Detective Constable Lynne Farnworth of Chorley Investigations Team said: “We are still appealing for information about the second man and I would urge people to come forward if they can identify him but I would like to thank all those who have assisted so far.”

Leeming is due to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Monday (6 November).

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log reference 1488 of November 2nd.
