Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the footbridge and seen a middle aged woman to contact them on 101 quoting log ref LC-2017-1125-0362.
A pathway by the River Ribble was closed off near Avenham Park during Saturday morning after the body of a woman was discovered.

Parkrunners lining up on the northern side of the river for the weekly Preston Parkrun reported seeing a police cordon in place and a body covered.

The police helicopter was called out and was circling over Penwortham during the incident.
The woman is understood to be in her 50s.
A statement from Lancashire Police said: “Her death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“The woman has yet to be formally identified and investigations are underway to establish how and when she died.”
