Word from our reporter at the scene indicated that one male was seen running down Market Street away from several police officers.

The male entered an abandoned unit with officers entering the building after him.

Police eventually located the man in the former Post Office building in Market Street. He was found hiding within the building.

Several officers entered the building with batons drawn and emerged with the man restrained at around 11.51am.

Preston Police have now confirmed that the man had stolen a diamond ring from McGowens Jewellers at around 9.50am before hiding.
