From giant umbrellas to sculptures you could drum a tune one there were some eye-catching parts of the Brief Encounter.

The Flag Market, Harris Street and the Town Hall were the main venues for the four-hour festival.

A stop-gap between the biennial Lancashire Encounter the showcase event was a torchlight procession from Winckley Square to the Flag Market.

The giant stopped traffic and made eyes grow big as it made its way around the city centre.

Here’s some of the events on offer and how the city centre looked during the festival.
