Update: Plungington Road reopened to traffic on Wednesday 6 September following repairs

Preston Bus is diverting one of its key routes, the 23 bus between the city centre and Asda/Fulwood, during the closure.

Heading out of the city the bus is using Fylde Road, Brook Street, Blackpool Road and then back onto Plungington. And coming back into the city the same route is used.

A spokesman for Preston Bus said: “Apologies for any inconvenience. As soon as we get further information, we will keep customers informed.”

The roadworks are expected to last until Tuesday 12 September.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “United Utilities were investigating a problem with the sewer but found that it had caused a void beneath the road which means that it has had to be closed for safety while repairs take place.
