A section of one of Preston’s busiest roads is to be shut for a fortnight.
AdvertisementPlungington Road at the junction with Ripon Street is closed in both directions for emergency repairs.

Preston Bus is diverting one of its key routes, the 23 bus between the city centre and Asda/Fulwood, during the closure.
Heading out of the city the bus is using Fylde Road, Brook Street, Blackpool Road and then back onto Plungington. And coming back into the city the same route is used.
Adelphi Street and Plungington Road, between Aqueduct Street and Blackpool Road, will not be served – instead passengers should use Brook Street.

A spokesman for Preston Bus said: “Apologies for any inconvenience. As soon as we get further information, we will keep customers informed.”
The roadworks are expected to last until Tuesday 12 September.
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “United Utilities were investigating a problem with the sewer but found that it had caused a void beneath the road which means that it has had to be closed for safety while repairs take place.
“They’re planning to work through the weekend and hope to have it resolved early next week.”
He said more details on the time-frame for re-opening the junction should be provided later on Thursday.
