Preston star of Coronation Street Roy Barraclough has died

A Preston-born Coronation Street star has died.

Roy Barraclough was 81 and passed away after a short illness.

He played Rovers Return landlord Alex Gilroy in Corrie.

Barraclough also appeared in Last of the Summer Wine, Casualty and Last Tango in Halifax.

He made his first appearance in Corrie in the early 1970s before joining it permanently in 1986.

He received an MBE for services to drama and charity.

He died at a hospice near Ashton-under-Lyme in Manchester.
