Arson suspected as cause of Avenham fire near abandoned building

An arson investigation has begun after cars were set alight near an abandoned building in Preston city centre.

Several cars were found on fire close to the former Hindu temple in Avenham Place on Saturday (6 May).

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Preston Fire Station to deal with the fire and they used 40 litres of foam to put out the cars which were alight.

Flames from the cars, two of which were left completely destroyed, had spread to the building.

Fire crews were called around 7.36am and Preston Police have been informed firefighters believe the cause of the fire is suspicious.

No one was hurt in the fire.
