A Preston church may be demolished to make way for a new care home.
AdvertisementSt Teresas in Church Row, Fishwick, has seen plans lodged to develop into a specialist care facility.
The presbytery and church hall would also be knocked down as part of the application by Exemplar Health Care.
A 30-bed care home would deal with a ‘nationwide shortage of such specialist care homes’ according to the plans.
Building Design Concept Limited have tabled the plans and say the care home would work with those who have Huntington’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease as well as young people with learning difficulties.

The care home would create between 80 to 90 jobs in the area.
Plans show the care home would have 15 off-street parking spaces including two disabled bays.
Fishwick councillor Martyn Rawlinson said: “I welcome the plans for this specialist care home in Fishwick. Nearby residents are desperate to see something happen with the empty church.
“While I’m always disappointed if buildings can’t be re-used, I understand that this facility needs to be purpose built and cannot foresee any problems being created for the residents from this development.”
Full plans can be seen on the city council website and anyone wishing to comment on the plans can do so there.
