Half-term in Preston: Kids can learn to code and build robots at the Harris

The Harris will be hosting a range of exciting events to keep children entertained this February half-term.

Introduction to Coding workshop

A free ‘Introduction to Coding’ workshop is one of the events being held at the Harris this half term on 16 February.

The workshop will be run by a 12 year old computer genius from Preston, who also goes by the name ‘@All_About_Code’.

The youngster has already done events all over the country and the ‘Introduction to Coding’ workshop at the Harris will be his firs one in Preston.

On Friday 17 February a series of free ‘Littlebits’ workshops will be taking place at the Harris for families.

Staff from the Media Innovation Studio at UCLan will be running the sessions that will help you discover the really fun ‘Littlebits’ electronics which allow people to play and build circuits and useful things in a simple and fun way.

The Harris will also be holding “LittleBits” workshops which will be taking place on Friday 17 February.

In the 1.5 hour workshops, children will learn through playing as the ‘LittleBits’ electronic building blocks help youngsters to learn the basics of coding and electronics.

The fun and creative workshops will run at 10am, 11.30am and 1.30pm and are being brought to the Harris by staff from the Media Innovation Studio at UCLan.

The purpose of the workshop is to encourage people to use everyday junk, such as old cereal boxes, to create new inventions using Littlebits technology, in a way to help develop technology solutions.

Egyptian Workshop

The Egyptian Workshop is your chance to get inspired this half term with the chance to view the Harris’ Egyptian collections.

Children aged 5-12 can attend with a parent or guardian, and will be able to create their very own Egyptian headdress.

You can drop in to the workshop on Monday 13 February from 1,30-3.30pm and is free of charge.

Cardboard Cacti

Cardboard Cacti exhibition will be open on Wednesday 15 February from 1.30-3.30pm.

Children aged 5-12 can attend with a parent or guardian to create cacti artwork in a fin and creative drop in.

The exhibition is free of charge.

Young Harris: Get together and lunch

On Saturday 18 February the Harris will be hosting their own picnic for youngsters to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon.

Children are encouraged to visit the Harris and bring a picnic to enjoy from 12-1pm.

The lunch will be followed by a workshop in which you can use a variety of materials such as Martin Creed’s.

The workshop is open to children aged 12-16 years old and the drop in session is free.
