Victoria Cherry, 44, went missing from Preston in October 2015 and her body is believed to have been found in Bolton.

Greter Manchester Police searched a house in Toronto Street, Bolton, during Monday (16 January).

At first they said they were treating Ms Cherry’s disappearance as a ‘non-body murder’ but said further investigations had revealed a body – understood to be that of the 44-year-old.

A 43-year-old man from Bolton was arrested on Monday of suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Terry Crompton said: “We are continuing to support Victoria’s family as they deal with this devastating news.

“The arrested man remains in custody, but I’m urging anyone with any information that would help our enquiries to get in touch.

“If you have information about Victoria’s whereabouts since her disappearance in 2015, or if you hold any information about the events leading up to our discovery, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”

Police carried out further searches after receiving information from the a member of the public.
