Forensics tents can be seen close to the community centre

Two further arrests have been made as police continue to investigate the death of a man on New Year’s Day in Preston.

A 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man, both from Preston, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Preston Police launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 67-year-old man near the Plungington Community Centre around 8.30am on Sunday (1 January).

The victim was taken to hospital and later died. He had suffered a head injury.

Police say he is understood to have been the subject of a serious assault prior to being found.

A 19-year-old man, from Preston, remains in police custody on suspicion of murder. He was arrested on Monday morning.

Police originally said the 19-year-old was from Bolton but this was due to him giving a Bolton address. He is also from Preston.
