The Met Office has issued a warning for gusts of between 60mph to 70mph.
AdvertisementA warning for the high winds covers Preston and Lancashire.
Update: On Thursday the Met Office downgraded the warning and withdrew it from covering the North West of England
The chief forecaster states: “A number of potentially vigorous low pressure systems are likely to move quickly towards northwest Europe later this week. One of these, on Friday, may affect parts of southern parts of the UK.
“However it is worth stressing that there are a number of scenarios in which the strongest winds miss the UK altogether. Even so, spells of wet and windy weather will be affecting many areas later this week.”
If the high winds do strike there could be damage to trees, and potentially buildings and power supplies, as well as widespread travel disruption.
The warning is in force from 6am on Friday (3 February) to just after 11pm the same day.
The Met Office forecast for Preston on Friday has rain forecast with highs of nine degrees and lows of four degrees.
