The Gafoor halal chicken factory in Fletcher Road, Deepdale, has seen 20 or so protesters at its gates.

Protected behind metal gates and a high wall the chicken factory has expanded a number of times in recent years.

Campaigners, who have been on site since 12noon on Saturday (14 January) are waving placards at traffic and passers-by with security from the Gafoor firm watching on. They are protesting against the use of the halal method of slaughter.

Nearby residents to the factory have long complained of smells and noises from the slaughterhouse and packing area.

Three years ago the Gafoor factory was raised by the Home Office and a number of workers were arrested on suspicion of working illegally.
