Firefighters brought a suspicious fire under control during the early hours of Boxing Day at a former car showroom in Preston.

The fire, understood to have started on the roof, involved the first floor office and roof of the former Perry’s site in Blackpool Road.

Perrys dealership moved to new premises in Bluebell Way, Fulwood, in the summer.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent five crews to the Blackpool Road site at 6.20am on Boxing Day (Monday 26 December).

An investigation has been launched by the fire service and Lancashire Police as the fire is understood to have been started deliberately.

No one was hurt in the blaze.

Plans lodged in September last year showed how the site could be redeveloped as a supermarket, gym and retail units – adding to the current Deepdale Retail Park and Morrisons supermarket on the road.
