A Preston councillor has died following a suspected heart attack after spending Saturday afternoon watching Preston North End.
AdvertisementCouncillor Tom Davies, who represented Preston Rural East since 2008, passed away on Saturday (19 November) evening.
Cllr Davies, who was a Conservative, was well known within the military community.
He was a former chairman of the Preston and District Veterans Council.
Steve Hills, from the veterans group, said: “It is with our deepest sorrow that I inform you of the death of Tom Davies.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
Cllr Davies, 71, was regularly the parade marshall for civic and military events in the city.

He lived with his family at Greenfield Way, Ingol.
Cllr Davies was also a long-time supporter of the Preston Sea Cadets and the Preston branch of the Scots Guards Association. During his working life he served with Lancashire Police.
Tributes have been paid by Louisa Stirland, the 18-year-old singing sensation from Preston, who performed at many concerts Tom attended.
She said: “I’m very sad to hear about Toms death. He was a kind and generous man who has always supported me and will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends and with the veterans who have lost such a great ambassador.”
