Firefighters tackled the blaze and now its owners have applied to bring down the building ahead of any redevelopment of the site.

Herbygreen Properties has applied for permission to demolish the building.

A statement reads: “The remaining building is currently in a dilapidated state which is likely to cause danger to the public and has a nuisance value from trespassers entering the site likely to cause potential harm to individuals and passers-by.

“The local authority have in the past received complaints from neighbouring residents following trespass on to the site by youths to use the remaining skate ramps bypassing the measures the owners had taken. Further measures were taken at the local authorities request to minimise the risk of injury.

“It is not possible to insure the premises given its condition and unoccupied status as it poses a risk to life to enter the site and leaves the remaining property open to further arson attacks in its present state.”
