A Preston man who attempted to fly drugs into a prison using a drone has been jailed for three years.
AdvertisementRenelle David Carlisle of Chestnut Crescent, Ribbleton, was stopped by police close to Risley Prison in Cheshire in August.
They found a drone, a mobile phone and a quantity of drugs in Carlisle’s bag.
On Monday 24 October he appeared at Chester Crown Court where the 23-year-old was sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of posession with intent to supply Class A drugs, two counts of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and one counts of possession with intent to supply Class C drugs.
Superintendent Peter Shaw from Warrington Local Policing Unit said: “This case was the first of its kind in Cheshire and I hope that the sentence handed to Carlisle sends out a clear message to other potential criminals that drugs crime will not be tolerated in Cheshire.
“We are committed to tackling illegal drugs and I urge anyone with any information about suspected drug related activity in their local communities to get in touch.”
Anyone with any information about drugs crime in their local community is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101. Alternatively information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
