Lancashire Police shut the M6 just south of Preston due to an ‘ongoing incident’.
AdvertisementThe northbound carriageway between Junction 28 and Junction 29 had been closed to traffic just after 10pm on Friday (21 October).
Drivers were being diverted through Leyland and Lostock Hall to access Preston.
The motorway reopened at 10.42pm on Friday.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at around 9.40pm on Friday to reports of a man on the wrong side of a motorway bridge on the M6 northbound near the Leyland junction.
“Shortly after 10pm the man, who was in his thirties, came on to the right side of the bridge and was detained under the Mental Health Act.”
Police thanked the public for the patience.
