M61 snapshot at 2.15pm on Friday – don’t go near it!

A major motorway heading south from Preston has been closed causing major delays.

The M61 southbound between Junction 9 (where it joins the M65) and Junction 8 (Chorley) had two lanes closed.

Lancashire Police say a ‘serious crash’ has taken place involving a number of vehicles.

Lanes one and two were closed for investigations work.

There are long delays in both directions on the M61 and also on the M6 southbound approaching Junction 30.

A spokesman for the police said: “Please be patient it could be busy for time a little while yet.”

The crash left a van driver in hospital.

The incident took place around 1.30pm on Friday (28 October). The lane closures were lifted around 4pm on Friday.
