A discount department store has confirmed it will be returning to Preston city centre – in the exact same spot it quit from five years ago.
AdvertisementTJ Hughes, as reported on Blog Preston on Saturday, has decided to come back to the Fishergate Shopping Centre.
The original 33,000 square foot shop over two floors is being extensively refurbished.
Managing director of the Liverpool-based chain Anil Juneja said: “I’m delighted to announce that TJ Hughes is returning to Preston and to its original premises. It’s fantastic news for the town and local economy. We’re really looking forward to seeing people back in the store.”
The former TJ Hughes shop had been earmarked to become a multi-screen cinema, but this collapsed when Vue decided not to move from the Capitol Centre.
Fishergate’s owners Benson Elliot said the return of TJ Hughes was a ‘vote of confidence’.
Director of retail Peter Cornforth said: It is great to welcome TJ Hughes back to the Fishergate Shopping Centre along with the jobs that it is creating on its return.
The retailer has taken a 10 year lease and more than 80 new jobs are being created, with recruitment already underway. The shop is due to be open in mid-October.
