Thousands of runners made their way through Preston city centre – and a few splatters of rain – to complete Run Preston.

A 5k and 10k race took place during Sunday morning as part of the Lancashire Encounter festival.

Overnight downpours meant sections of the route down by the Old Tram Bridge had the feel of a school cross country.

The 2016 route meant you only had to tackle the Avenham Park hill ONCE but that was more than enough for many people.

A single lap course for the 10k is pretty much traffic free and allows nice views across Avenham Park – not that you have time to take them in.

Chip timing was in operation meaning runners got an instant email and text message with their finishing time.

More than 1,200 runners had registered for the 10k.

A 2k Fun Run to raie money for Preston charity Heartbeat is taking place in Avenham Park from 1pm.

See if you can spot yourself in the pictures below, and hope you’re enjoying a well earned relaxing afternoon.

I managed to get round in 51 minutes, so that’s me done!

Preston 10k done in 51minutes. Ouch.
