From upcycling workshops to knitting afternoons the University’s city centre shop is becoming busier.
AdvertisementBranded as InTheCity the University of Central Lancashire has been expanding its events programme.
Technology workshops, upcycling furniture days, knitting and drop in sessions are taking place.
UCLan engagement and outreach officer Lee Macneall said: “The InTheCity initiative is a great project for the community to engage with. Over the coming months, the shop space will see a range of different community events takin place to help benefit the strong bonds between the University and the people of Preston.
“A major aspect of the two room space is that the community can hire this space for free, helping keep event costs down and pennies in people’s pockets. The project is all about giving back and we’re extremely excited to get started.”

The shop, located at the Lune Street entrance to the St George’s Shopping Centre, has the following free events.
On Mondays between 1pm and 3pm a knitting circle takes place, for beginners or more experienced knitters.
Wednesdays sees a drop-in advice session where you can get help regarding housing or employment benefits or debt. It takes place from 10am to 12noon.
Savvy surfer workshops run from 10am to 1pm on Thursdays, giving people the chance to get to grips with smartphones or surfing the web.

Upcycling runs on Fridays from 10am to 4pm, and gives you the lowdown on taking old and tired furniture and bringing it back to life.
