A Preston firm has helped launch a new social network for those in the construction and engineering industry.
Brainchild of a building services engineer Sean Wilson he built network Tradefit with 3ManFactory.
More than £60,000 has been invested so far and a KickStarter has begun to raise a further £10,000 for an iPhone app to launch in September.
Mr Wilson said: “The idea came about after years spent working in the construction industry, struggling to locate the right tradesman for the job. Unless you went through recruitment companies, it was extremely difficult to find suitable tradesmen for a job as they don’t tend to have websites or much online presence.
“I’ve tried using LinkedIn, but a lot of the skilled plumbers, electricians, and so on that I’d be looking to find wouldn’t use a network like that as they see it as being for the suits. So I decided to set up my own social network to make the whole process of companies finding good engineers and trades people finding work a lot easier.”
The platform has been given the once over by Soccer AM’s Tubes who interviewed Mr Wilson about the website.
Managing director of 3ManFactory Nathaniel Cassidy said: “With the construction industry currently providing around 2.9 million jobs in the UK and contributing nearly £90billion to the UK economy, the potential impact of this new platform is massive. We’ve known Sean for a long time and when he explained the idea for Tradefit we loved it and had to be involved.”
