Tuesday (19 July) is due to be a scorching day, with the mercury rising to nearly 30 degrees by mid-afternoon.
A south-easterly wind flow is triggering the hot start to the summer holidays, with many schools beginning to break up.

Elsewhere in the UK temperatures as high as 33 degrees in the South East and South West of England are expected.
Wednesday (21 July) is expected to see normal service resume in Preston with rain forecast.
