At least 84 people are understood to have died in the apparent terrorist attack.

Preston City Council has lowered the flag in a mark of respect to the French nation.

Council leader councillor Peter Rankin said the flag would remain at half mast until Monday.

He said the scenes in Nice were ‘dreadful’.
