A man was arrested at Preston railway station on Saturday morning in connection with an assault involving a cup of coffee.
AdvertisementBritish Transport Police were called by Virgin Trains after the incident on a train to Preston.
The victim had a cup of hot coffee thrown over them on the Glasgow to London Euston service.
He had boarded the train at Carlisle around 8.49am on Saturday 9 July. The suspect had boarded at Glasgow.
The man who had coffee thrown on him sustained a scald to his chest through his t-shirt.
A train manager supplied the victim with a gel pack and burns dressing. He declined further medical attention.
The incident happened shortly after leaving the station and police officers met the suspect at 9.55am at Preston.
Sergeant David Grant said: “Neither party is known to each other.
“We are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and at this time a male remains in custody.”
British Transport Police said on Sunday (10 July) the man had been bailed to give time for CCTV footage to be downloaded of the incident.
