Portergate, the development firm, said they are bringing in a 70-metre crane to move the 47-metre crane which has been a feature of the city skyline for the last nine months.

Lancashire County Council is advising motorists to avoid Friargate from 4am to 3pm while the lifting of the crane takes place.

The crane has to be lifted up and over the roof of the student accommodation block that has been built.
