Three ‘totem pole’ signs are to be put up on Preston’s historic Flag Market.
AdvertisementPreston City Council wants to put up the displays as part of its ‘rebrand’ of the area.
Every Saturday there’s to be an event taking place on the Flag Market for the next three months.
The 3m high boards, costing £1,500, are to display information about events and establish the Flag Market as a venue in its own right.
A council spokesman said: “The sign will enable the full season’s programme to be promoted as well as other key messages such as the forthcoming Lancashire Encounter and the Harris’ programme ensuring a symbiotic relationship between the Flag Market and the Harris.
“They are semi-permanent providing a sustainable solution to promoting what’s on, compared to the current A boards which have limited promotional space and have to be put out and bought in every day.
“The totem is flexible and can be moved to accommodate larger events with bigger infrastructure and crowds expected such as Christmas Lights Switch on and Armed Forces Day.”
A planning application for the signs states they will not be lit up and are to be coated in anti-graffiti paint.
It also states the posts would be put in place until 2021.
