Preston was transported back to the heady days of prog rock on Saturday and Sunday night.

A Bank Holiday weekend meant the pints were flowing freely and the feet stomping at the Continental for the return of the Floyd Band.

Covering classic Pink Floyd tracks I was transported back to a time of sitting in my Dad’s car and hearing Dark Side of the Moon on repeat during school holiday excursions.

The Floyd Band have developed a reputation as a great live act, and they make the Floyd accessible for devotees and casual fans alike.

There’s a great party atmosphere during their concerts and they play a good mix of early and later Floyd tracks.

I’m approaching 30 and so to me they are not a band I know by second nature, but it’s odd how many of their tracks are ingrained in your subconscious from childhood.

Money, Run Like Hell and Have a Cigar are absolute belters and the Floyd Band do them justice with solos and interludes in all the prosaic glory of the Floyd.

Having never seen the original I can’t tell you whether they stack up, but with two nights sold out in a decent size venue, this seven-piece are clearly doing something right. And above all they are having fun doing it, and that’s what this concert was – just good, beer-swilling, foot-tapping, Saturday night fun.
