Police are appealing for witnesses when a Renault Clio came off the road near the Royal Oak pub at Riley Green.

The car clipped the kerb and collided with wooden bollards and a lamppost before flipping over and crashing through a hedge before coming to rest on its roof in a field.

The A6061 was closed for around four hours from 11.30pm on Sunday (29 May) while police accident investigators were on the scene.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Blackburn, suffered a head injury, broken wrists, broken pelvis and an injury to his lower leg.

A passenger, 20, from Bamber Bridge, suffered a broken nose and collar bone. Both men were taken to Royal Preston Hospital and their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police are looking for a second passenger who is believed to have made off from the scene before emergency services arrived.

Sergeant Tracey Ward of the Road Policing Unit said: “This collision has left two young men with serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who saw anything or knows what happened to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log number 1819 of May 29th.
