The family of a teenager who died in a crash at Brockholes Brow have spoke of their devastation.
AdvertisementShelby Maher, 17, from Deepdale, died after being struck by a car on the A59.
She and four friends were walking down the hill when the incident took place around 6.30pm on Wednesday.
Her family said: “The family of 17 year old Shelby Lauren Maher are devastated by the loss of a daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and cousin.
“Shelby was the eldest of two daughters to Melanie Maher. She could be shy with those that she did not know, however once she did know you, she could be the best friend you could ever wish for. She loved to sing and loved her music.
“Our family would like to thank everyone for their kind words, cards and flowers. Shelby will be missed by many and our family would like some privacy at this time so that we can come to terms with our loss.”
Shelby was treated at the scene by paramedics, but later died in Royal Preston Hospital.
Her friend Rachel Marie Murphy, 23, from Ribbleton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family released an emotional tribute.
A 17-year-old girl who was taken to hospital with a broken arm and leg is now back home in Ribbleton.
Sergeant James Power of the Road Policing Unit said: “Two young people have tragically lost their lives in this collision and their families are being supported at this time by specially trained officers.
“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to contact the police on 101 quoting log number 1233 of April 20th.”
