PC Hesketh posted on Facebook to ask for the person involved to ‘do the right, honest and decent thing’ and come forward to the police.

The incident happened around 4.30am on Sunday. An empty shop in Friargate was also targeted.

A statement from PC Hesketh said: “In particular we are interested in speaking with a man seen wearing a beige hooded coat in the area at the time, who was walking with a group of four other men all wearing dark clothing.

“Our investigation continues but I personally would appeal for the person responsible to do the right, honest, and decent thing and come forward to speak with us – or for one of those who were with him to get in touch.”
