Suffragettes tells the story of the struggle for a woman’s right to vote in Britain

Suffragettes is to be shown as part of International Women’s Day in Preston.

The University of Central Lancashire is showing the Blockbuster film on Tuesday 8 March.

A pre-drinks reception starts at the Mitchell and Kenyon cinema, in UCLan’s Foster building, from 4.15pm – with the film showing, which is free to attend, from 4.45pm.

On the same day an exhibition opens in the university’s Centre for Contemporary Art (37 St Peter’s Street) entitled Portraits: Black Women’s Lives.

Another exhibition at Oxheys Mill Studios, put on by Lubaina Himid, professor of contemporary art, called Family Album, includes a conversation with international photographer Ingrid Pollard.
