Preston Police put hundreds of officers on the streets of the city as the English Defence League protested about Preston becoming a ‘creeping Sharia city’.

At the same time a number of community groups massed on the Flag Market to show their support for Preston’s multi-culturalism.

There was also the small matter of a sold out Championship game at Deepdale as Sheffield Wednesday visited Preston North End.

We gave you live updates from across the city centre throughout Saturday.
