A man has appeared in court accused of raping a schoolgirl on New Years’ Day in Preston.
AdvertisementAbdurraouf Daghem, 27, of Plungington Road, Preston, is alleged to have attacked the teenager at an address in the Plungington area.
Preston Magistrates’ Court heard Daghem, an asylum seeker from North Africa, has been living a ‘transient’ lifestyle since he arrived in the UK.
In January he made an application for asylum.
Since his arrest, Daghem has changed his address to a house in Blackburn.
He has also been known to live in the Durham area.
Deputy district judge David Scanlon said he believed there was a substantial risk Daghem would not return to court if he was granted bail and remanded him in custody until his next appearance at Preston Crown Court on February 9.
Speaking through a Syrian interpreter, Daghem confirmed his identity but did not enter any plea to the charge.
