Watch Red Rocks bridge at Hoghton being swept away by River Darwen

A bridge over the River Darwen near Preston has been swept away in the floods.

The river turned into a raging torrent during Boxing Day and just after lunchtime the structure gave way.

It was captured by Iain Cookson who saw the Red Rocks bridge disappear into the murky waters.

During Sunday dog walkers and those out for a ramble have been seeing the wreckage left behind.

The bridge is near Jolly Fold Farm, linking Carver Brow and Potters Lane.

The River Darwen had flood warnings issued from Christmas Day evening through until Boxing Day evening.

It ran at its highest recorded level and caused flooding in Higher Walton and Walton-le-Dale.
