Leslie Howell, 91, of Marlhill Crescent, Ribbleton, was readmitted to hospital after surgery and died on Saturday.

Mr Howell suffered a broken pelvis during the incident, around 12.50pm on Monday 12 October, involving a Fiat near Preston Guild Hall.

Police are now looking for a man who came to the pensioner’s aid as he lay on the floor in Wards End, off Lancaster Road.

Sgt James Power, of Preston Road Policing, said: “Looking at the CCTV footage there was a male who came to Mr Howell’s aid.

“He looked like he was in a dark coloured saloon vehicle, possibly a Vauxhall Vectra, but was not at the scene when police arrived.”

A post-mortem is due to take place on Tuesday.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log reference number 0543 of October 12.
