The 27-year-old is being held in custody of suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

The shopping centre was closed for the majority of Thursday after a crude explosive device was found in the mens toilets.

The device ignited but caused limited damage to one toilet cubicle. There were no injuries.

Preston Police closed Butler Street for nine hours while the bomb squad searched the shopping centre and surrounding streets.

A police spokeswoman said: “The police investigation continues and we would like to thank everyone for their continued support and co-operation through the incident itself and on social media channels.”

The CCTV released by the police on Thursday evening, showing a man with a bag in the St George’s Shopping Centre, around 8.30am is still valid.
