NEWSFLASH: 9 November 1715 – Rebel foot soldiers stay in Garstang. Horse troops arrive in Preston in the evening.

Rev. Samuel Peploe, Vicar of Preston parish church, defiantly reads prayers for George I and the Royal Family. His loyalty was later rewarded with the Wardenship of Manchester and the Bishopric of Chester, holding both posts simultaneously.

What did the good people of Preston make of all the horsebacked troops arriving on their doorstep on that eventful evening? How many actually knew what was happening and why?

They were soon to find what the fate of Preston was to be, later this week.
