Pitches at the facilitity in Tom Benson Way, Ingol, is to improved to a FIFA one star and World Rugby 22 accredited Evolution XQ 3G surface.
Andy Coverdale, UCLan’s business services manager, said: “This fantastic new pitch will allow football and rugby to be played on the one surface for up to 60 hours a week, that’s nearly 10 times more games than we can currently accommodate on a grass pitch.
“This is all about giving our students the best experience possible. Over the years their matches have been affected by the weather but this new 3G surface will ensure all games can be fulfilled and those players will be competing on a world-class pitch.”
The 100m x 68m surface consists of artificial grass within a rubber crumb and shock pad. A new spectator area, dug outs, recessed goals and fencing will also accompany the new pitch.
Jan Peace, the UCLan Sports Arena Development Manager, said: “It’s an exciting development for the University and we know the students, local league players and the professional teams can’t wait for it to be ready.
“It will be a great new addition to the Arena and it will be complemented by our great on-site facilities including free parking, café and manned reception.”
