What is promised to be the catalyst of regeneration in Church Street looks set for planning permission.
AdvertisementChurch Court is due to become five new shops along its ground floor with 13 flats upstairs.
Plans tabled by David Cox architect say the buildings revamp could help lift the surrounding area.
Planning officers at Preston City Council appear to agree, as they have recommended the scheme for approval.
An officers statement says: “The proposed development would bring the building back into use, contribute towards increased housing supply, encourage further regeneration and complement the recent improvements to the adjacent listed building.”
Lancashire County Councils archaeology department had raised concerns about the revamp.
They said they had “misgivings” about replacing the traditional shop fronts.
The plans will be discussed by councillors on the city council planning committee on Thursday 8 October from 1.30pm at the Town Hall.
