Preston cyclists will take to the streets on September 22 to celebrate the bike.
AdvertisementThis is no regular bike ride though, as volunteers will pedal a large mobile structure on bicycle wheels dubbed, “The People’s Canopy” from Freshers Village at UCLan through the city centre.
The structure will then feature at Lancashire Encounter, a weekend festival of bold performance.
The People’s Canopy is a project by In Certain Places which hosts artistic interventions and events. Seeing the structure move through the streets is said to be a unique experience in itself, according to the team. The Canopy will display artwork as well as a whole spectrum of performance throughout the day and become a key element in the Lancashire Encounter festival.
A Pop-Up Cycle Hub will also provide refreshments at the Flag Market.
The bike ride is due to begin at 12pm and all cyclists are invited to attend and take part in the procession.
