New plans for a retail park in Fulwood have been thrown out for a second time.
AdvertisementCouncillors said fears about increased traffic and the fact the Eastway Hub was not within the newly adopted North West Preston Masterplan meant they could not pass the plans.
Original plans for the Hub from Hollins Strategic Land LLP were rejected in November over fears it would harm the future of the Cottam Brickworks development.
New plans for the Hub showed a smaller supermarket at the heart of the retail park and a number of other retail units instead – with the overall floorspace being used for shopping and leisure being higher than the original rejected plans.
Councillors voted unanimously to reject the new Eastway plans.
Greyfriars councillor Damien Moore said “residents would get all of the pain with none of the gain” if the Eastway Hub had been passed.
The developers are understood to have lodged a planning appeal against the original decision in November.
