Major roadworks on a section of the M6 north of junction 32 will take place this weekend.
AdvertisementHighways England have announced they will close the northbound motorway between 10pm on Friday 24 July and 6am on Saturday 25 July.
Traffic is going to be diverted off at junction 32 and sent westbound on the M55 to junction 1 before joining the A6 northbound to rejoin the M6 at junction 33 at Galgate.
The hard shoulder and the inside lane through junction 32 northbound will be in place with a 50mph speed limit all day on Saturday.
The Saturday daytime closure will be extended to two lanes from 10pm on Saturday night until 6am on Sunday.
On Sunday a single lane closure will remain in place until 10pm when the full northbound closure kicks back in until 6am on Monday 27 July.
Project manager Mark Mosley said: “These repairs will tackle recurring issues with potholes and, as well as extending the life of the bridge, will help give drivers safer, smoother motorway journeys.”
It is part of a £70,000 scheme to re-waterproof the motorway as it goes over Whittingham Lane and make structural repairs.
