A Preston man is in police custody on Friday night on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 40-year-old pedestrian is in Royal Preston Hospital with serious head and leg injuries after a collision in Penwortham.

The driver, aged 30, who was driving a green Seat Ibiza, has been arrested for driving whilst unfit through drugs and possession of cocaine. He has now been bailed until Tuesday 15 September.

Police closed Carleton Drive around 3.20pm after the incident, and it reopened at 6.30pm.

DI 1762 Philip Bowerbank of Preston Police said: “There is an on-going investigation into the circumstances of the collision and I would appeal for anyone who may have seen what happened or knows anything about the incident to get in touch.”
