New benches on Preston Flag Market have been proving popular.
AdvertisementPreston City Council has bought a number of the movable benches.
Large blue wheels allow the benches to be moved around the square depending on what events are taking place.
They are crafted by local joiner Smithy Joinery.
Professor Charles Quick, curator for In Certain Places, said: “In Certain Places has had a long relationship with the Flag Market since 2006 when we installed Jeppe Hein’s water work ‘Appearing Rooms’ and more recently with the ‘Harris Flights’. We are very pleased that we are able to contribute to the continued development of the space for social and events activities with the unique Preston Bench. Now the city has its own bench we look forward to seeing more of them about the city.“
Councillor Afrin, Preston City Council cabinet member for culture and leisure services said: “I think the new benches on the Flag Market are fabulous – they help make the space more useable and already they are full of people every time I go past. They offer an exciting new opportunity for flexibility for how events are hosted on the Flag Market and how the space is used. We are really pleased with how they turned out.”
