UCLan student Josh Brandwood has been elected as Labour councillor for Morecambe. He was inspired by a lecturer discussing the future of politics and chose the party based on his beliefs.

After a successful campaign in the area, Lancaster-based Josh feels that he can revitalise the seaside town where he was brought up.

Josh has only just finished his degree so has given himself little rest as he is already beginning his duties as local councillor. On winning, he said, “It was fantastic, like a kid on Christmas day actually when I got elected so yeah, it was great.”

For an extended interview with Josh as he talks about his journey from classroom to council, listen here.
