Our take on how the Mayor and Mayoress may look in being great sports during their performance of the Tai Chi fan dance in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice appeal

On Friday May 15 at 2pm the Mayor and Mayoress will take part in their finale fundraising event! They will perform a Tai Chi fan dance with Feixia Yu from Confucius Institute at UCLan, Master Zhang Yu and a group of UCLan students who travelled to Beijing with them earlier this year to promote Preston as a place to live and study. During their trip they were trained in fan dance performance skills – which will now be put on show for people in Preston to see, on the Grassy Knoll next to the Guild Hall, between Lords Walk and Crooked Lane.

During their term of Mayor and Mayoress of Preston, Nick and Barbara Pomfret, picked St Catherine’s Hospice as their chosen charity to support with various events and activities. St Catherine’s is a much-loved local charity which is very close to Nick and Barbara’s hearts; it carries out vital work in the Central Lancashire area, caring and supporting patients living with serious illness. Their focus is on helping people to have quality of life and treating the whole person, not just the condition.

Councillor Nick Pomret said “We would love to end our fundraising efforts on a high for such a wonderful charity, and encourage anyone who enjoyed our performance to make a donation to St Catherine’s.

“Barbara and I will be absolutely delighted if people will turn up on Friday to enjoy this wonderful and graceful performance of Tai Chi art and at the same time supporting the very deserving St Catherine’s charity.”

The Mayors Tai Chi fan dance event will commence at 2.00 pm on Friday 15 May.
