A community church is applying to create a permanent home in the centre of Preston.Advertisement
Longton Community Church wants to convert the former Halfords garage in Ribbleton Lane near Preston Prison into a place of worship.
The church has grown since it was founded in 1995 to have a regular congregation of between 300 and 400 people.
A statement from M Jones Planning Consultancy on behalf of the church said: “Longton Community Church has a proven track record of being a church for all the community regardless of their individual faith. They also have a strong community ethos that is delivered in tangible ways to the local community.
“The loss of an out of centre retail unit and its replacement with a community facility in such a highly accessible location raises no planning issues.”
The church currently uses a variety of venues across Preston and South Ribble to host its services.
The full plans for the church can be found on the city council website.
