An ageing bus shelter at Morrisons on the Docks has been replaced.
AdvertisementCosting £10,000 to install the new shelter is made of toughened glass and stainless steel and has been provided by Preston City Council.
One car parking space at the supermarket has been lost due to the new shelter but it means shoppers no longer have to walk through the shelter to get through to the supermarket.
Preston City Council’s cabinet member for community and environment councillor Robert Boswell said: “The council is responsible for the maintenance of around 80 bus shelters, of which this is one.
“It was no longer practical to keep maintaining the old shelter so we have worked with Morrisons to install the new one.
“We will continue to maintain all our shelters and are currently in the process of painting them.”
Morrisons Riversway store manager Andrew Savage said: “The installation of the new shelter is great; the old one was past its best and was in a bad location. The new shelter looks great and is being used on a regular bases. We agreed to forfeit a car parking space as it was hard work for our customers to get through the shelter with their shopping.”
